DE DIJK

BIOGRAPHY:

De Dijk is a band from Amsterdam, founded in 1981, named after Amsterdam’s Zeedijk, which has been making Dutch-language pop music since the early 1980s. Elements from soul, blues, rock, and chanson are combined to create their own sound. The band, founded in 1981, released its first album in 1982. The band originated from the Dutch band Stampei, which was founded in 1975. At the end of 1987, the band received the Zilveren Harp, the prize for promising Dutch artists. With the LP Nobody in the City, the Dijk established its name because 100,000 of it were sold. In 1993 the band was awarded a Golden Harp, the award for “great achievements for Dutch light music”. Their live CD was good for platinum. The cd Blauwe Schuit did well too; the album got platinum and they were allowed to receive them from Joe Cocker. On February 14, 2005, the Edison Oeuvre Prize was awarded to De Dijk. In 2006 the twenty-fifth anniversary of the band was celebrated with a performance in Ahoy Rotterdam, a CD and DVD and a surprise performance in Paradiso. In 2007, trumpeter Peter van Soest took the place of the departed Mike Booth. In 2009 the band won the Popprijs for 2008. [1] In 2010 the album Hold On Tight was released, in collaboration with the now deceased Solomon Burke, followed in 2011 by Scherp de Zeis.
